Data Overview Reflection The Data Overview presentation I completed for ITEC 7305: Data Analysis & School Improvement is a detailed data analysis of North Cobb High School’s 2011-2014 11th grade American Literature & Composition EOCT results. The presentation is designed for a collaboration team meeting that will focus on utilizing the new freedoms under IE^2 to address data-based student learning problems in that course. Analysis of the data reveals specific areas of concern for specific subgroups. The presentation ends with a summary of the findings and a call for the collaboration team to research, discuss, and identify specific instructional and organizational innovations to befit the identified needs. To create this presentation, I accessed EOCT data through The Governor's Office of Student Achievement website and exported it to an Excel file. I used the data to generate several data charts to share with my collaboration team as models of data collection and analysis. The charts present the total tested population as well as disaggregated subgroup populations, comparisons of performance by gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and disability. Accompanying each chart are multiple interpretations used to facilitate the communication of findings and open the door for collaborative discussion. Through completion of this artifact, I learned to utilize the Report Card database on The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement website. I also learned how to work data sets into formats that create visually appealing and informative charts useful to analyzing teacher and student performance and areas of need. I learned to use PowToon, a free, useful, user-friendly, engaging digital presentation platform good for educators and students alike. The presentation could be improved by inclusion of hyperlinks to digital collaboration graphic organizers and to the collaboration wiki. Including these elements would streamline the intervention discussion and documentation. The presentation is an intervention used to identify and remedy potential instructional or organizational policies or oversights that contribute to achievement gaps. It will be implemented during collaboration meetings in the first month of the school year as an appropriate collaboration focus based in actual performance data. This overview will impact faculty development by providing undeniable data to support organizational and instructional change. The emphatic call for research-based change will impact student learning. Students underserved as evidenced by the data will be the focus groups for the IE^2 initiatives. The impact on faculty development can be assessed through evaluation of collaboration logs and teacher lesson plans. The impact on student learning can be assessed through systematic analysis of EOC data at the end of each semester this school year. References Cobb County School District. (2014).
